05/02/2015 11:39 pmJustifiably spoken of with adoration, this East Village Southern bar/eatery slings comfort faves like killer fried chicken and "fun drinks" at relatively inexpensive rates; it's a bustling, cramped hole-in-the-wall that doesn't take reservations, but courteous service is another reason it's worth the wait. |

02/28/2015 9:01 pmSo, of course, anything that Guy from Food Network recommends has initial credibility with me. I just happen to be up in the Big Apple with my daughter for a few days, and decided to get dinner and one of the places featured on Guy's show. I remembered a place I thought looked cool, The Redhead, so I stopped in. I ordered the Fried Chicken, which came with two pieces of chicken and a wedge salad (for a whopping $20!!). I am originally from the South (well South Carolina at least...that's the SE anyways) and really know a thing or two about fried chicken. From the show (and for the price of three whole chickens), I expected the chicken to be stellar. What I received was two pieces of chicken cooked too long and a bit too greasy. The flavor was mediocre, but could have used a tad bit more seasoning for my liking. The wedge salad, however, was a treat that I would like to try to recreate on my own...yummy! The wait staff was inattentive, in spite of the fact that there were less than 10 patrons in the establishment. I found myself doing the "hey you" thing more than once. I ordered a side of biscuits and they were really hard and really small for $7...outrageous! Honestly speaking, it was just OK and I probably will not be going back, and was a bit disappointed! ;0( |

01/15/2015 5:44 pmLike this place a lot. I have gone for drinks a bunch of times and once or twice I have tried the food. The atmosphere is pretty cool, and the staff has always been nice. I typically get a vesper, which is a strong cocktail they make in a martini glass. It is kind of like a martini, except it tastes good. They have a few other strong cocktails that are good too. I usually accidentally get drunk here due to the nature of the cocktails. The fried chicken is really delicious. |

11/07/2014 12:34 pmSuch a great little restaurant! I saw The Redhead featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and immediately decided that I had to go there (pretzels and beer cheese!). Man, they did not disappoint. Me, my husband, and our good friends shared all of the appetizers - including the pretzels - and all were fantastic. For my entree, I had the fried chicken. If you go here, get the fried chicken! It was amazing - juicy, crunchy, tender and with just the right amount of spice. And, the wedge salad they serve with it is the perfect side - crisp, cool, and slightly sweet thanks to the pomegranate seeds. Dessert was great as well as the cocktails! I look forward to returning. |

05/20/2013 1:12 pmThe service was snooty. Food was decent, but underwhelming. I was expecting the flavors to really pop at this gastropub, however, I left as though salt could be added to every single dish, from the Bacon nuts, to the Chips and Dip and the Fried Chicken. I really like their menu concept, however, the execution left a lot to be desired. That said, the concept is good enough that I'd try it again. |
