Tom's Restaurant, Portland, Oregon Restaurant Details

Food:

A little dirty, a little smelly, a little sketchy. If you want to avoid a crowd and drink a stale beer then this is your spot.

Food:

Set your expectations accordingly and you'll love this place. The best way I can describe Tom's is that it's a love child of Denny's and your favorite corner dive bar. The food is solid greasy spoon fare and the service is pretty good. It's a great place for good food at a reasonable price and with good drinks to wash it down with.

This place is a dive. Some of you will be okay with that. I wasn't. The pool table was malfunctioning, kept swallowing the cue ball, the light above the pool table was out, and way too many overly drunk people. I won't be returning.

Friendly. Nice atmosphere. Reliably good food.

If your idea of dining out is lobster in flown in fresh from Maine or quail eggs sauteed in Bavarian creme sauce with sixteen waiters standing by to anticipate your every desire, you should probably pass on Tom's - at least until your trust fund runs out.

If you like good, down-to-earth food at great prices and friendly service, however, Tom's is the place to go. Proudly unpretentious, Tom's caters to those dwindling numbers of Portlanders who are tired of funding the race for cuter decors and more grandiose menus.

Tom's is good, old-fashioned food at prices you won't believe if you're used to dining on Hawthorne. If there were 6 stars available I'd give it all 6.
