4 stars for ambiance, 3 stars for food, 3 stars for service. Not a bad place and not too pricey.

Passable yuppie bistro for decent food that apes whatever was trendy in food when the food network first came out.

Be prepared to eat! We'd seen Toscana on a previous visit to Ebenezer's across the street and filed it away as a "maybe". The next time we were in the area, we looked over the menu, but were still unsure and ended up giving it a chance. We were pleasantly surprised by a friendly and attentive staff, delicious starters and the entrees were very healthy-sized portions, not quite family size, but if you don't have a huge appetite, I'd still consider sharing a dish with someone or else you'll have leftovers to take home. The pasta tasted fresh, the sauces full of flavor, the house made sangria was wonderful. I couldn't eat here every night, but next time I'm near Union Station and have some time, I'll definitely stop by.

One of the cheapest restaurant I EVER had in years of eating out. The experience was bad so was the food. Couldn't even finish the food. Manager georgios and staff are rude and not customer friendly. The waitress added her own additional tip to the bill. Be CAREFUL WITH YOUR CREDIT CARDS THEY CHARGE EXTRA THAN THE ACTUAL BILL AMOUNT.

Strollin' through DC, just finished a good meeting, and decided to treat myself to a nice dinner. Hopped on Scoutmob to see if there were any winners in the nearby area offering a good deal; and I found Toscana Cafe.

It's a very small place (with the downstairs for takeout customers) and the tiny upstairs (20 customers max) for folks dining in. Makes for a pretty cozy atmosphere, which is nice. I do wish the servers and kitchen staff didn't communicate to each other in Spanish. Obviously lets the cat out of the bag that this restaurant isn't 100% authentically Italian.

That being said, the food was very tasty. The charred corn salad was excellent (good taste, large size, and healthily prepared). I was pleasantly surprised by the lentil soup (a typically Middle Eastern dish) that had a Italian imprint through cheese and different spices. And for the main course, I had the Maltagliati (whole wheat pasta, eggplant, tomato, pesto, and aged ricotta cheese). Whole wheat pasta definitely tastes different (!), but it's at least healthier. The whole dish was very delicious though.

I enjoyed my time at Toscana, but I probably wouldn't go back unless I'm able to get a discount through something like Scoutmob. Otherwise, it's just a bit too pricey for me...
