Toscana Cafe Wine Bar, San Diego, California Restaurant Details

Food:

We ordered Chicken Penne and it came swimming in cooking oil. We only ate the top half where the oil had drained away a bit. Worst Italian meal ever. In addition waiter tried to rip us Aussie tourists off by charging 18% gratuity as a line item in with the items ordered, and then giving us a bill with provision for adding a tip based on the previous total (and suggesting additional amounts between 18 and 22%) . A total tourist rip-off, avoid this place at all costs.

Customer service is not a priority for these guys, and do not bother asking for a manager if you are dissatisfied. I waited 45 min for my plate and it did not come out, I asked for a manager and he was "offended" when I correctly pointed out everyone around was served first although they ordered after I did. Not worth it at all, not even if the food was good, I 've been to gourmet 5 entrees top restaurants where I've already been eating within the first 20 minutes. Ridiculous and I would give them zero stars if that was possible.

Service was average at best. Waiter dropped out food off and wasn't seen again until we were done and had been waiting for 10 minutes.
The food was unimpressive. It seemed as if they had a great menu but poor execution on the recipes. Both of our pasta dishes were swimming in watered down sauce. Pesto sauce should be light and flavorful. This was runny and bland.
The children's menu chicken sandwich was a great size, but it was completely dried out, from the chicken to the toasted bread. There was no sauce or mayo to add moisture that was severely needed.

Food:

Went for breakfast. I'm sorry to say this place was suggested by our hotel. The service was sloppy and the food arrived cold. We asked that it be returned to the kitchen. When the plate came back to the table there was no bacon, it had been forgotten. We had to wait for everything; water, coffee, sugar, cream and so on.Toscana was a big disappointment. There so many other choices downtown.

Worst service ever!
The hostess was super rude. We went for breakfast with a baby and there were balloons by the entrance. the kid wanted a ballon and the hostess said -No, and if you don't like it there are many places in gaslamp to eat breakfast.

One of the servers apologize and brought a ballon for the kid. The hostess came back and took the ballon back.

The food is good, but where is the customer service?!?!!?!
