New Owner: Total Disaster!
I have been a frequent visitor to True Thai for over two years and have always liked the food. The last two times I went they were out of several items on the menu. Tonight surpassed all bad experiences I have ever experienced in a restaurant. We were a table of 8 people and begun ordering appetizers. As food arrived and we begun eating, it did not taste the same as before. We then ordered main courses, our favorite, the duck. We were informed that the restaurant run out of the duck, which was disappointing in itself because this was their best dish in the past. We then ordered other items, and again were informed that they we out of salmon dish. (what kind of restaurant runs out of food ...at 7pm...?) The server brought more appetizers and we immediately noticed that the beef appetizer looked and tasted completely different than usually. To top it off, the beef pieces were raw inside and the meat quality was bad. At this time they brought out the soup, which other people from my group said it tasted like water- flavorless. At this point, we asked for the manager. Fifteen minutes later I walked to the front desk to request manager again. All of the sudden, a blond woman stormed out of the kitchen, came to our table and without greeting us or asking any questions to learn why we requested to speak with her, she proceeded to show us a half-raw, unsuccessfully cooked duck on a plate saying "THis is why I cannot serve the duck to you". We were a little shocked by this approach, so we explained to her that our experience is less than satisfying overall and that it's not just about the duck. SHe was incredibly defensive about every single item, saying that "we changed the way we cook the meat". This was by far the worse food and manager service experience I have ever encountered. WE cancelled the order, paid for the appetizers (yes, they charged us $30) and left. Not worth trying. Don't bother. Bad cook and inexperienced, defensive manager. Enough said.

I'm actually very sorry to have to leave this negative review and it concerns the staff and not the food. The food we received, we enjoyed, and service time was reasonable, if slightly on the slow side.

The experience that urged me to write followed our meal on a Friday evening. I accidentally left my cell phone in the bathroom just before departing and called the restaurant upon the realization, approximately 20 minutes after the fact. I was told that it had been located and it had been given to the manager. I was not able to return immediately to retrieve my phone, however, but later that same evening.

Imagine my disappointment and frustration then when I arrived to pick up my quite valuable, new-model Samsung phone and be told that it had gone "missing" from where the manager had left it. I was further frustrated to learn that it had not been kept securely at all but had been left in plain sight (and reach) of both customers and all employees on a set of shelving which also held take-out orders and restaurant miscellanea. I was lead on a "search" of various staff areas while attempts were made to call the phone in the hopes of locating it by its light and/or vibration. Having been assured that a further "search" would be made once guests had departed and all the restaurant lights could be turned up, I left contact information.

I heard nothing from the restaurant later that night, nor the next morning. When I called in the early afternoon Saturday, the manager did not come to the phone but relayed the message that they were "still looking and would call". I received no contact at all on Sunday. I returned in person on Monday, found the same manager who had been on duty Friday night at the front desk and was told that "Someone must have taken it...but not one of the employees." Asked about any sort of security footage, she said she would speak to the General Manager who was not present and that he would call me. I was not told when he might be available although I asked directly.

Suffice it to say, I am extremely disappointed with the situation, not to mention deprived of a very valuable piece of technology.

The food is GREAT! but the customer service is by far the worst! The phone lines were busy non-stop, my co-worker and I waited 20 minutes for food to come out to the buffett table, we asked a waitress if we could get more plates, she scoffed and took her time. :( we waited and extra 10 min for more plates, the waiter told us our To Go food (for other co-workers) will be done before we finished eating, it wasnt. We waited for another 25 minutes. I wish they would tighten up their customer service policy and they would be the best Thai restaurant ever!

The food was pretty good but not very spicey even at a hot spice level. The menu was pretty long, the most and varied curries I have seen in a Minnesota restaurant. I eat thai food every chance I get so this comes from experience. The portions were too small though, I'd say below average.

We had the opportunity to go this restaurant last night and although the food is average, the only word I can use to describe the service is ghastly. After we sat down, the bus boy served us a single glass of water as they were out of glasses. The waitress did not show up for the next 15 minutes. After we got our appetizer, I had to go find the waitress, as we needed some hot sauce, which did not show up for another 10 minutes. The food came in a little while without any serving spoons and while eating nobody was there to refill the water at our table. Finally, the waitress never showed with our check and we had to go to the front to ask for the check. I complained to the manager about the service and he was extremely blasé about my complaint. Needless to say, we will not be going back to this restaurant again. If you really want to try Thai food, there are much better restaurants in the Twin Cities.
