Typhoon! On Broadway, Portland, Oregon Restaurant Details

This used to be one of my favorite Portland restaurants. I loved their coconut soup. The ability to sit outside in the summer. Quick, simple service. Central location. And we are great fans of the St. Lucia hotel. But last ime, I went there spontaneously with my family of 6. The receptionist was on the phone when we entered. The conversation was lengthy and I don't think it was regarding anything related to the restaurant. Once finished, she asked "Do you have reservations?" -- both my wife exchanged looks as we felt the question was posed in a very snooty tone by the teenaged hostess. Just as we answered, the phone rang, and as I responded to her question, she simply turned picked up the phone and started another elaborate conversation. My family and I briefly huddled and then we simply left. The restaurant as far as we could tell was about 2/3 empty at the time.

For restaurant to succeed in delighting its customers, many things have to work well. And only a zealous management can ensure it does.

Food:

Good Thai food, good layout, good prices, good service. Simple as that.

It seems like the quality has come down over the years. I recall being very fond of Typhoon. I recently brought a friend there after talking it up for some time and found myself embarrassed. There are so many wonderful Thai places in town that seem to have a special touch that Typhoon has lost.

Everything about the restaurant was great. Maybe it's just thai food in general, but expect to go to the bathroom a lot the next day. The appetizer was especially good. The food was very rich, so there was lots of leftovers to take home.
