Great place for coffee and hanging out. Love the atmosphere. Coffee is ok, B-. Still beats the pants off Starbucks though.

Laid back and friendly. Good people, good product, a comfortable atmosphere. Very little need to watch your back while you exchange pleasantries while ordering. The pace is humane for servers and served.

The Mug is a lounge--not an ER; not "slow." Clients with severe bladder issues, urgent need of a caffeine fix, or simple petulant impatience, may call the Mug inefficient--but they should be seeking relief at any of Portland's chain clinics administering stimulants and self-esteem boosts (achieved through implying the staff are one's robots or slaves). At those, the jargon is uniform, the protocols are anal, and the transactions have all the warmth of a high-throughput military brothel.

I prefer the Ugly Mug for its atmosphere and personality; but if ever I wish to dehumanize or nullify my existence, I'll go elsewhere.

Of all the coffee shops in Sellwood, this is where I love to find myself. The Baristas are friendly. The coffee is stellar, and the place is super homey.
