Food:
- HALUSKY With bryndza, sauerkraut, bacon, or tvarog - I got it with farmer cheese and bacon - a soft pasta like gnocci with cheese curds and very crispy bacon bits, tasty though it will be quite oily from the bacon

Service
- Friendly, but they seem understaffed

Ambiance:
- You have to enter the build and walk all the way to the back.
- The restaurant is recently sized and there is also a back room for events
- Nice decor - wood and (I assume) traditional plates from ukraine
- Pretty casual place

The food is O.K., but the service could be improved. The decor is a bit old fashioned. So if you want authentic Ukrainian food and service (conveniently automatically added to your bill) go there.

I will have to say BEST BORSCHT soup--tasty, chunks of beets, onions, it's a Savory blend, as well as the texture is not the consumme i've had in the past. Low, key, humble, and REAL--If you are looking for an upscale restaurant, this is not it--come here for the Ukranian home cooking, people watching, a gastronomic voyage. Best Stuffed Cabbage, Best Pierogies in NYC-- If you are looking for Homestyle cooking, this is the place to go, similar to Williamsburg or Greenpoint restaurants in their authentic, down to earth decor, large tables accommodate groups of friends for a Friday night dinner after work, fun festive atmosphere. Their signature dish is the Varenyky (pierogis), soft, tender steamed dough envelop tasty variety of fillings from the stellar meat, potato, to spinach. The Stuffed Cabbage is a sweet, soft envelope of good for you cabbage, encircling the tastiest filling of rice, meat and spices. The challah bread is fresh, soft, with a tender sweet crust--also possibly the Best i've encountered. Here, it's about the Simple Life, Good Eats, Good Vibes, Good Company of Friends. If you are unfamiliar with Ukranian cuisine, the best thing to do is order the Ukranian Combination Platter, as it's a sampling of their Best Hits--Top Billboard ranking for the tasty bites at this diamond in the rough!

Lasting impressions: filling eastern European comfort food, tango

My experience: We came here for the tango but were tickled by the idea of being able to combine dinner with tango (doesn't really happen back in the UK unless it's a tea dance as we don't really dance tango in restaurants). The food was nice - I had potato pancakes, my friends had goulash and wiener schnitzel and we were all very full - the portions are plentiful! The tango is in the back room of the restaurant - but I'll let you make up your own mind about that, if you're going for the tango :)

The verdict: Good comfort food - if we lived nearby, we would probably visit quite often as the restaurant had a different flavour to other places we've visited in New York.
