Like previous reviewers give full of positive feedback on sandwiches, I am unable not to agree with them. I had a few fruits and salads from the salad bar along with my club sandwich. My club sandwich was full of meats and breads tasted so good b/c juicy meats. I could tell the owner of the store gave a lot of afford to decorate and maintain the cafe according to the modern day's style; clean bathroom, a few paintings at corners, stainless chairs and some classic tables along with chairs at the outside. I am glad I found this place would like to come again for my next D.C. trip.

The sandwiches must be why everyone comes here. People kept coming in, ordering some kind or another breakfast bagel. I must say the line was moving very fast! I had a Swiss omelette and it had fresh ingredients but needed some seasoning. The row of reach in coolers with drinks and all those grab and go items made it feel like a small convenient store. What I like there was tons of European snacks and candies. There was also a small fruit bar with to-go boxes for a fast healthy snack. I would have given one more star, but man I went to the bathroom there. Not very clean.

This small cafe serves some of the best sandwiches in the district -- I personally have not found one better. This non-descript sandwich palace is nestled next to a dry cleaner and only hints at the food delights inside with a few patio tables outside. The Uptowner disguises itself as a mini-market but the real deal are its sandwiches. This family run business excels as making some AWESOME tasting eats -- I highly recommend the foggy bottom, carlyle, and the uptowner... you can even customize your food with bread types ranging from pita wrap to baguette and toppings such as avocado or hot peppers.
