Veritable Quandary, Portland, Oregon Restaurant Details

Food:

An old standby that's kept up with new tastes, this classy perennial favorite right by the Willamette River Downtown offers screamingly fresh midpriced Pacific NW fare and creative cocktails well-served by a professional staff; while the quaint, brick-walled space is crazy small, the verdant patio makes up for it as an unrivaled oasis in the city, all adding up to the ultimate in dining for special times.

One of my favorite places I've been to, the food was amazing and the service was top notch! Their wine list had a ton of great options and the pinot we went with went great with the short ribs! The atmosphere was very energetic and fun!

We had brunch here this morning. Outdoor environment was lovely but the food was mediocre considering the class of restaurant and price. There are a miIlion tastier meals to be had in this great food city. On top of it, the service was lacking and our order came out incorrect. Our waitress was nice enough... but the hostess...oh my goodness. It's a super hot day and we were put at a table in the sun. I politely asked the hostess if it would be okay if we were switched to a shady table and she acted like i had just asked for her firstborn! Suuuper rude and acted sooo put out...I even apologized for any inconvenience... no response from her. Sheesh. Glad we tried VQ but likely won't be back. I hate to write this review. Such a bummer.

Two stars only because the restaurant atmosphere is nice.

Update: The management was kind enough to give me a gift certificate to give them a second chance. We returned and our service experience was better but the food was, once again, quite disappointing. With so many other options in Portland that are fab, I can definitely say we won't be back.

Food:

The food is always amazing! Anything they have as a daily special or the VQ burger are my go to's. Pair everything with a Lavendar Collins and your day is set. Reservations are a good idea and don't be put off by the incredibly rude hostess. It's not her fault, I'm sure, she's been enabled.

Despite not being my jam i can say that it is expensive however you seem to get what you pay for in terms of the best quality ingredient and mindful preparation. Service is top tier and professional. They have an outside summer dining area that may be nice in the summer.

A wonderful and extremely charming place...food is excellent, as is the staff. I used to work nearby and several of us ate there regularly and always had a nice time. The inside of the restaurant is a wonder to behold it is so full of character. This has been a very reliable restaurant forever..:
