I have been going to Village Tavern for about 25 years. We moved away a decade ago, but we always return for great crab cakes, and their staple Onion Strings (which I usually sneak a bottle of Boar and Castle Sauce to have with the onion strings).. It has always been consistent in quality and flavor. The last time I went I was very disappointed. They took the Onion Strings off the menu. When I asked why, they said it was because they had to sit aside a place in the kitchen that was totally devoted to onion strings, and could not be used to prepare other food. Now the standout snack and side dish that brought many people to the bar and restaurant is gone, and this place is like any other medium priced place you could go to eat in town. The crab cakes were also cooked differently, or the oil was different they cooked it in. The taste was not the same, but they were okay, but nothing dream about any more. I hope that this wonderful place doesn't become another "Hams".

This is one of our go-to places for a really good dinner. They are well above the quality of the chain restaurants, with a good wine list and nice variety in the menu. Don't let the "pub fare" description fool you, they have a gourmet take on classic pub dishes. I have tried everything from the filet, the marinated flank steak, shrimp and grits, flatbreads... all sooo good. My wife and I enjoy the VT either by ourselves, or with the kids if they have been really good. Service has always been fast and unobtrusive.

Lovely ambiance. Very delicious food. I must eat gluten-free and their selections are superb, most delightful... except for the GF pizza. It is shipped in and not good at all. It does not have a crisp crust and the restaurant can't improve on it.
