Aleece really really really loves Waterbar. Maybe it's because it's the first restaurant we ate at, when we visited the city together? Maybe it's the sound of the ocean crashing against the pier, lit by the sparkling lights on the Bay Bridge? Maybe it's the posh service, fresh seafood, and comprehensive wine list? Or maybe it's the $1.05 oysters at happy hour?

Speaking of happy hour, the outdoor patio is a big draw until they run out of oysters. Get in line early after work or you'll be waiting in line for hours. But the patio is worth it, they've got a beautiful view, fresh air, umbrellas with space heaters. We like to get the oysters and a jumbo seafood platter full of clams and crabs and lobster. And you can feel just a little less guilty about indulging because they donate 5¢ from every oyster to local charities.

If you can't find a spot on the patio, try sneaking inside and seeing if you can grab a spot by the bar. Sometimes, you might make a friend who will help you order a glass of bubbly and a dozen oysters. We've met some really cool people that way.

We've also had good experiences with taking guests from out of town here. They love the impressive fish tanks and the swanky decor. Plus, the roasted dungeness crab is always a fun treat. I don't think we've ever had a bad meal here, even with the pickiest eaters.

Set on The Embarcadero, if nothing else, Waterbar has a lovely view. I dined here on a Friday night (with reservations, thankfully) - the place was bustling.

We started the meal with complimentary sparkling water and a friend ordered a house-made club soda. Both drinks arrived sans bubbles. Not the end of the world, but if you like your sparkling water, realllly sparkling- beware.

The shrimp cocktail and oysters were the best part of the meal and I would return again for these orders alone. Word around town it their happy hour oyster deal is a steal! $

It's a blessing that Waterbar has bread service because it took an hour and fifteen minutes for our entrees to arrive. Once they did, everything tasted great (...partly because I was starving and anything would have tasted great at that point). The dishes were well-plated, good portion sizes, and mixed the perfect amount of unique with approachable.

Had a great time. We planned this dinner in advance (from Europe) for our trip to SF. It was also a birthday celebration. Great food an great service, a bit of an overkill maybe. You get several people at your table because each have different tasks (bringing and getting the plates, getting your orders and wines and answering questions/requests). There's a nice area to start with a cocktail if your table is not ready yet. The food was great. Nice fusion and 'local' seafood. It's a real night out. It does cost you a night out as well. People there come a bit dressed up but not too much, I guess that's what makes it San F? You can dress up but if you didn't, that's fine too. There's a nice view on the Bay (bridge) and in the restaurant there Ada aquariums (lobster, other fish). If you smoke and leave the table, you better prepare your host because the kitchen works very efficient and on time.
Recommended.
Oh! The oysters came from different areas. They were good but I've had better :)

Soooooo delicious! I hadn't been in some time and went to the Waterbar for lunch with coworkers. Every dish was excellent... From the oysters, the ceviche, the green curry trout, to the chocolates for dessert. The assortment of flavors was perfect. So perfect we all felt as though we were on vacation. *sigh* I'm going through withdrawals...

I just love entering this restaurant, with a super cool aquarium and the best clams! It was perfect sitting outside and just admiring the Bay Bridge on a sunny day. Went there for brunch, food was really good, cocktails were good but pricey. Location, location, location. Easy access on Muni as well.

"Seafood magnificence" and "spectacular" water views lure diners to this upscale Embarcadero bar and restaurant situated "practically under the Bay Bridge", known for its "fresh", "well-prepared" sea fare (the oyster happy hour is "hard to beat") and "smart" aquarium decor; sure, it can get "a bit noisy" at times, but "knowledgeable" servers keep things moving and there's also patio seating.
