White Oaks Restaurant, Cleveland, Ohio Restaurant Details

First off I would like to say the place reminds me of a funeral home its very spooky coming in the door and it has a very old historical smell to it. Very small menu without sides that sucks. The food had no delicious taste to of eat not even the salads were appetizing. They waiters were very boring, they were like undertakers "ugh strange. But I think they should give john the bar rescue crew for this restaurant

Something has changed at this establishment. We always used to love coming here for the great food and excellent service. However, this past Monday, they were really off!
First problem was when they sat us at a table that was just too close to another couple dining. No other tables in the room were occupied, very annoying having to listen about operation scars, etc.
Next, the waiter stops at their table first, with our menus in his hand. He should have given us our menus, make his preliminary remarks, then go over to the other table.
I had to ask him for the wine list, as it did not come with the menus. The waiter seemed to be very green and not really into making this a pleasant dining experience.
First on the order was Lobster bisque we ordered for an appetizer. It was not hot, but only warm and not flavorful as a good bisque should be. The Lobster Bisque was not worth $8.00
For the entree, I ordered GRILLED BLACK ANGUS RIBEYE. I love Ribeye the way it is supposed to be seasoned and grilled.
This ribeye was very tender, however it was extremely tasteless and it was swimming in a pool of what looked like gravy with way too much oil all over it. The steak was supposed to be in a Cabernet Demi Glaze, but what I received was just laden with what seemed like a gravy that had not been properly separated from the oil.
After eating half the steak I had to stop as I was becoming nauseated from all the oil.
The steak was NOT worth $30.99. I would have enjoyed a better ribeye at Longhorn's for a lot less money.
This was an extremely disappointing dinner and service, considering the quality of this restaurant in the past.

There's very little I enjoyed about my experience here.
The one thing I did was that there is a nice view where you can see some local wildlife.

The first thing I noticed was the hostess. No "welcome to White Oaks", no smile, no eye contact. To pay $30 entrees and not have people treat you like an honored guest - that's one way of saying "we don't want your money - don't come back". Seriously, I get friendlier service at Chik-fil-A.

I was looking forward to the food. For the price, it should have been excellent. It wasn't. I wouldn't say it was terrible, but when you start thinking that fast or frozen food tastes better - that's a bad sign. Overall the food was bland. The beef in particular I thought tasted like fish.

Then there was the smell. When leaving the restaurant there was this somewhat strong odor of mustiness that appeared to be coming from one of the dining rooms back from the look-out window. It made me wonder when the last time it was that some of the furniture or carpet had been thoroughly cleaned/replaced. They have apparently been around since 1931 - perhaps they're still using the same furniture that had never been reupholstered.

I have been going to White Oaks for over 40 years (and I am only 53) and have never had a less than excellent experience. The food, staff and decor are top shelf. It is one of our favorite destinations for dinner and often visit the beautiful bar for drinks and appetizers.
