This "relaxing" East Village wine bar decants "excellent", Med-centric vintages paired with a "not-bad" small-plates lineup; "warm, rustic" and "dark in a good way", it's suitable for conversation or a "romantic" rendezvous, even if it's "not a cheap date."

A romantic spot with a nice wine selection and tasty morsels. The wild mushroom appetizer was very flavorful, but the lamb meatballs we got were a little on the dry side. The food portion sizes are on the smaller side, but we got a decent-sized pour on the wine. The waitstaff was very friendly, and with my LivingSocial voucher, it was an awesome value!

I am a native New Yorker and will keep to the directness of how we are known to be :)

Drinks: Excellent. Great wine selection. Has a great selection ranging from a nice $9 Montepulciano or for a mere $600 you can have Chateau Palmer!
Space: This is a very elegant and modern wine bar/restaurant. The bar is intimate and has tables are communal style and open making it great for mixing and mingling. Great place to bring a date, impress your significant other or get-togethers. They offer outdoor dining!
Scene: People watching. Romantic. Date night. Pickup scene. Singles scene. Girls night out. Outdoor dining.
Crowd: 30-50s Pick-up scene. Mostly professionals and locals.
Service: Excellent! The staff is very courteous, knowledgeable & professional.

Came here 2 nights ago on a whim with one of my best friends as we ducked out of the torrential downpour. We were primarily in search of wine (some people fancy "singing in the rain" we prefer to "wine in the rain"), food and un-obnoxious clientele and being budget-conscientious from having done drinks and a movie earlier we referred to our handy foursquare app to find a place with some sort of deal.

Winebar (and a plenthora of other places) came up as having 50% deals (with a max of $15 bucks off) through Scoutmob (I'm a social media maven, I know) and they one after we saw good reviews/tips.

Our social media sleuthing did not disappoint! Our bartender for the night was a charming young woman by the name of Jessica. She's a sassy blonde with a cool skating company sticker on her phone and a fantastic knowledge of the wines that Winebar carries. Since Yelp also happened to have a deal for a complimentary flat bread pizza for two (seriously, it's perfect for 2 people, or 1 if you're Cookie Monster) with the purchase of a bottle of wine, we shrugged and decided to go hard.

She recommended a rose since we wanted something light, fruity but not too overwhelmingly sweet and thus we went with an Italian selection ; Negroamaro, Masserei, Nardo Rosato, '10 - it was delicious and my friend and I loved it, even if it was tough to consume since we were already in our happy place from earlier mai tai and mojito consumptions somewhere else.

For our flatbread we had a tough time choosing from their menu because they all look amazing, well crafted and using quality ingredients, we went with their "Flat Bread Basil Oil" which compromised of fresh goat cheese, mozzarella di bufala, walnut oil roasted garlic puree, crumbled walnuts - YES. WALNUT OIL ROASTED GARLIC PUREE - this is not one of my favorite things ever.

My friend and I sat at the very back by the wine bar and got to witness our flat bread get made from scratch as they prepared the dough, spread sauces on it, added toppings and popped in their rustic looking, brick pizza oven. 10 minutes later (or so it felt like) out came an amazing pizza that smelled like Italian angels descended from a cheesey/garlic shop and produced THIS.

The crust was delicious and crunchy, but not too think to be categorized as a "thin crust" - but just right. The mozzarella with the goat cheese produced amazing flavors and interesting textures since they didn't melt together and the walnut oil garlic puree was foodgasmic plus the crumbled walnuts added another element of crunch and flavor that created an explosion in my mouth that only rose wine could put out .

Dramatic? Yes. Is this flat bread really worth the hype? Yes. I'll definitely be back to try another flat bread and calamari as other reviewers before me have kindly pointed out is amazing.

The wine list here is broken down into French, Italian, Spain and "world" which features wines from Germany, Australia and other places that produce fantastic wines.

The atmosphere is dimly lit, warm, rustic, simplistic and romantic with low background music --- perfect for conducing conversation amongst friends or with a date. So glad to have found this place and can't wait to return!

4 out of 5 stars because it IS a little pricey - but from what we had and from other things I saw brought out for other patrons, it's safe to say it's definitely worth it :).

I thoroughly hated this place. Overpriced for sure, but, more importantly, terrible service.

To begin, the wine we chose was not to my liking, but that's not their fault. The glass they gave me was all cruddy at the bottom and the inside seemed to have some sort of dust film. Not a good start.

Then, as we attempted to enjoy the atmosphere, some guy came out and started to hammer some nails in to the podium, which lasted more than 5 minutes. This is at 7pm on a Thursday - seems like they could have chosen a better time for a construction project.

But, our order was taken quickly and food came right out. It was, however, terrible. We split some crostini of the day - 3 with roasted red pepper and anchovy and 3 with goat cheese and something (hummus? I forget). We were hungry and only ate 2 of each. Bread was basically burnt and flavor was minimal. We also split a trio of sliders ($20+? seriously?) The beef one was all right, the lamb was mediocre and covered in a not delicious sauce and the salmon was terrible - overcooked and covered in a worse sauce. We didn't finish the salmon one. Basically, we left hungry.

Waitress wasn't good either - didn't clear plates, wasn't very polite, etc. I consistently leave 20+% tips to anyone with like a base level of competency, and this was the first time in a while that I was planning on leaving a bad tip. Alas, gratuity of 18% is included (WHAT? For a party of 2 on a weeknight?). Well, that explains why she was such a bad waitress - no incentive. So, somehow, for a mid-range bottle of wine in a dirty glass and sub-standard "snack", we ended up with an $80 bill. I only had a $100 bill and she came back and said they didn't have change. We were visibly displeased, but offered a credit card - she responded by insisting that they could drum up the change and returning to the cashier. Some 5+ minutes later, after visibly waiting on other tables in the meantime, she finally returned with the change. I couldn't have been happier to leave. Haven't had a dining experience this poor in a long time. Definitely not worth the money.

Only redeeming quality is the decor.
