Wolfgang's Steakhouse, New York, New York, American Restaurant Details

Spectacular steak and over-the-top sides reign at this manly local meatery chain, each location of which sports a different feel; you may have to not eat for a week to pay off the bill, but then again, you might not need to because the portions are so huge.

At first: we cannot comment on any food served at Wolfgang's. My wife and I travel the world looking for authentic and/or exquisit restaurants. Wolfgang's was a restaurant on my list like for ever as it is internationally well known for their dry aged delincacies. So we stepped in with pretty high expectations - which is not exagerrated reflecting the location and prices on the menu. Sadly the waiter was unattentive to a level we have rarely experienced before. Although this is a reason to immediately leave a place claiming to be top level and demanding top money, we decided to stay as I am a "meatlover". But as the waiter became rude when I asked for non-dry aged dishes for my wife, we instantly left and will for sure never come back.

I don't normally write reviews, but my experience last night was so APPALLING I felt compelled to write this.

I've been a loyal patron of Wolfgang's for years. Yes, I've had my fair share of top-end steak houses in the city, but I always chose Wolfgangs (Park Ave location) as my go to whenever family and friends came to town. Last night, I decided to try out the Time Sq location due to the fact that its the closest to my apartment. After reading the 3-star reviews on Yelp, I went in expecting less than average service but the same quality steaks and sides.
I had a 9:30 reservation for last night and when I arrived promptly, I was told that I had to wait for two tables to clear (waited over 10 minutes) - not a big deal.
After we were seated, our waiter, Alen, came to our table and was pretty friendly to start. When we decided to order our wine, thats when the service took a turn for the worst.
I tried to order the magnum bottle of Beringer (on the lower end of cost), and Alen kept trying to up sell me, saying the bottle wasn't that good, and tried to make some recommendations for a really expensive bottle. After explaining to Alen multiple times that we were not trying to spend $400 on a bottle of wine, he left to fetch our bottle with a look of disdain. 10 minutes later, he came back with a different bottle, saying that the Beringer was all sold out. As he was tyring to sneakily open the bottle of wine, I had to stop him and ask him how much the bottle was. His response was something along the lines of "Oh, this is a great bottle that is actually $100 cheaper than the retail price... $400".

Then he decided to bring back some disgusting bottle of Reserva. It was so bad my friends and I wasted the majority of the bottle.

BUT IT GETS WORSE.

After this whole wine snafu, Alen's demeanor and attitude was one of the worst customer experiences I have ever had in my entire life. When you pay $400 for a meal, you expect nothing but the highest quality service. Alen was far from that, and should never be allowed to work at any restaurant. Not even McDonald's.
When he came to pour our wine, he purposely spilled the wine all over the table. COME ON. POURING WINE WITHOUT SPILLING IS SUPPOSED TO BE BASIC.
When he was placing our utensils, instead of politely placing them like he should, he reached over everyone and essentially dropped the utensils disrespectfully.

The food was good, as always. But when you pay the price you pay, service should at LEAST be ok. After being a loyal fan of Wolfgangs for YEARS, I know I will NEVER be going back. Keens, Benjamins, Quality Meats, Strip House, etc are all on the same echelon of steaks, with far superior service.

Caesar salad and steamed asparagus were horrible too expensive bar staff kinda rude and when I saw asparagus and told staff didn't want it I was still charged. Much better options in the area

We went to this restaurant 3 times. Each time we spent about 400 a meal. The second time we ate there we bought a 600 dollar bottle of wine to take home along with our 400 dollar meal. The food was great, but the service was horrible.

On our last visit, the waiter spilled steak sauce all over me and the table. I complained about this, the serving staff responded by laughing us out of the restaurant. Literally they were all staring at us and laughing as we walked out. I had brought my bosses best client there for lunch. They made a fool out of me and my boss. They spilled sauce all over me.

I can never go back here again. Because that tall older looking server with graying curly hair and hard to understand English laughed me and my bosses largest client out of the restaurant. He is probably one of the more powerful Chinese businessman, and now he will speak poorly of this establishment in China, and believes my judgment in places to eat is lacking.

Thank you so much Wolfgang, for being an arrogant, selfish, and horribly serviced restaurant. Thank you for embarrassing me to no end, and making me feel unwanted after spending close to 2 grand in 3 days. NEVER EAT HERE EVER!!!
