Wow! Is it me? I tried to report this directly to the manager, but he had other things to do, so he/she can read it here on Google, along with you all. You judge: First, let's get things out of the way. The chili was interesting and the cakes were perfect--my daughter even wanted to replace ice cream cake with Woodstock's poppy cake during an upcoming event. We won't be using Woodstock Wine & Deli for any event, though.. Now, back to business. Here's how we were treated yesterday. 3 of us walk in. The place is dead. We are the only customers. We see 3 individuals working. We place our orders (2 slices of cake, 1 beer, 1 chili). At this point, I read the coffee menu and ask the young man what a "breve" is. He pretended not to understand me 3x and ultimately corrected my pronunciation of this borrowed foreign word. I did not have a chance to order this drink, though, because we went into a long-winded solo about the drink, that it is a delicious espresso drink made with half and half and, were one trying to lose weight, one should not order this beverage. He wanted to make sure we got the message because he repeated his opinion twice or 3x and then walked off before I could order. After he left, a woman replaced him at the register, and I do not believe she heard any of this.

We ate in. No one walked into the place the entire time we were there. When we finished, I walked up to the counter and asked to speak with a manager. The young man and the older man were there. The older man stated that I could speak to him. Translation? My manager isn't hear or does not want to hear you out? At any rate, before I began, the man who said I could speak to him changed his mind, said he has a few things to do in the kitchen, and would it be all right if he came back in a moment. This left me alone with the young man. I asked him whether he had additional weight loss tips for me. Without missing a beat, he smiled and said he does not. I would think that a well-meaning individual would be mortified at having been asked such a question, but he was moving about nervously behind the counter. Eventually he muttered an "I'm sorry" to which I replied that a sincere apology is usually not delivered with one's back facing the recipient, as he was doing.

Hey, by this time, you're probably thinking I'm a big girl, right? If you're thinking he's discriminating against overweight people, know that I am 5'6" and weigh 140 lbs. I cannot explain his motivation, but I do know that I am sharing this story with as many people as I can so as to actively discourage you from experiencing the ugliness we experienced yesterday at Woodstock Wine & Deli.

If you love clam chowder, you have to visit on Friday for the creamy, warm, chunky goodness Tak and his crew serve up! Or some meaty, zippy warm your soul chili! The sandwiches are great, quiche is yummy, there's a huge selection of beverages, including esspresso, beer and obviously wine. Love this place for lunch!
