Not what it used to be. The Wool Growers used to be my favorite restaurant and my family has been eating there for decades. The last five or six times we've eaten there we've noticed a definite change in the quality of the food. My standard has always been the filet mignon which used to be excellent. The last half several times we ate there my steak was full of gristle. The last time we ate there the fries appeared to have been re-fried and came out of the basket in one lump.

The last straw was our last attempt at lunch there. I took my dad and my 97 year old uncle there for lunch. My uncle was using a walker and had difficulty getting about. Eventually we were seated only to be told that we had to move to another table in the bar. Apparently, one of their "regulars" had come in with his party and they were in a rush to see that he didn't have to wait like the last of us rif-raf. We started walking to the bar and kept walking out the door.

The Wool Growers was always the place where we took out of town guest for a taste of Bakersfield. Never again!

We have snce been going to the Pyrenees, Benji's, and Noriega's restaurant and find the food far superior.

Just like most people I have been coming to Woolgrowers since I was a kid and everything has remained the same! This is my favorite food...pickled tongue being number 1. Thankfully most people I go with don't like it so it more for me. Getting just a set up is plenty of food. I don't know the last time I orders something from the menu. Everything is served family style except for whatever you order off the menu. I love the cabbage soup with beans and salsa and of course who can forget the bread! Can't get enough. There are two bars and two dining areas. The back area is usually for large groups. At Woolgrowers you are most likely to run into someone you know. Feels like being around family when you are there. Absolutely love this place! I live in San Diego so this is on my "must do" list when I come home!

Basque food at its finest. Good value and service. Owners and staff are of the best in making your dining a pleasant experience. My favorite place for years.

Very good place to have dinner if you have a large or noisy group. Very energetic in this restaurant during the weekends when we go. Everything is served pretty much family style except for your main entree. Sometimes you even sit next to other parties on the same setup in the banquet hall style dining. Good food and unique Basque dishes, something that is very exclusive to this region and a few others throughout the world.
Most of the sides you get with your meal consist of beans, pickled tongue, bread, salad, pasta, french fries, vegetables like green beans. You can get just that, but you probably should order an entree for a little bit more, like a steak, pork chop, chicken, etc.
