My go-to place in my neighborhood if I ever hang out in the area. I hate midtown west as it usually gets too crowded with the tourists, but if I ever happen to meet peeps in my hood, Xia Xia is the best place to chill and have some decent South African wine. It never gets too crowded, unlike other mediocre restaurants/bars in Manhattan. I wouldn't expect the best quality service because you are here to enjoy the wine, ambience, and small talks...And the escape from the crowd in Hell's Kitchen. It's the best place to talk with your friends for hours with wine on any night of the week.

The service was absolutely horrendous. Yohann was the rudest server I have ever experienced in New York City. You are treated like garbage and like they are doing you a favor. Give me a break-- with so many delirious, phenomenal places to eat/drink in Hell's Kitchen, this nasty joint doesn't hold a candle to it. The food and drinks are pathetic and EXPENSIVE. Nothing I ordered tasted good, and I am the least picky eater in the world. Paying 10 bucks for an appetizer sounds great, until you see that it is literally TWO BITES of food. Save your money!! It's also extremely dirty and they have failed their Health Department Examination multiple times, which totally freaks me out. (didn't realize that before I took a table here, or never would've even sat down). Do yourself a favor and don't give this place the time of day. They definitely won't give you the time of day!

Pretty bad service for average food. I went with friends on a Saturday night. It was busy but not insane; however, all of the staff seem flustered and disorganized. Food was just eh.

Lively energy, wonderful staff, and a focused wine selection makes Xai Xai a spot for a romantical rendezvous or dining with a group. They're flexible.

The decor's put together, wood and exposed brick, and a storefront of floor-to-ceiling glass.

As for the menu, it's South African tapas. If you're into dessert, share a plate of the Durban mango mousse, it's a refreshing treat.
