"Bigger is better" declare sushiphiles of these East Side Japanese "go-tos" for "monster-size" slabs of the "freshest fish", offered at a "decent price"; the price of popularity: their "drab" setups are generally "crowded" with "long waits" at prime times.

Great japanese place. Fresh raw fish and tasty rolls. Large portions.

The food was good, but it was a terrible dining (lunch) experience.

The service and food were extremely slow, so it was no wonder we waited 15 minutes to be seated. After being seated we waited another 15 minutes to have our orders taken. The water glasses were dirty. The staff were unorganized and without manners. If your meal comes with salad side, it's just a heap of baby spinach leaves on a plate. No dressing. No other vegetables. Upon asking for a dressing, we were told we would have to pay for a side.

It's a shame because Yama is very pleasing to the eye and has pretty decent food. I feel as though this establishment would do well under new management with better trained wait staff.

Solid sushi joint near Union Square. Edamame was a bit squishy, but still good. Really loved the naruto roll: tons of fish, not too much cucumber, skillfully prepared. The sashimi was the stand out: very fresh. The sashimi can get a bit pricey at about $4 per piece. Service was very no-nonsense. I enjoyed sitting at the corner of the sushi bar with my friend. Beware, this place gets PACKED, and doesn't take reservations -- so be prepared to wait if you come at a peak time.

Service was very good, food was very good. Decor leaves something to be desired for me. Highly recommend
