I guess this is the place for traditional Korean family gatherings. Came here to celebrate grandma's 90th bday. My uncle had reserved one of the private rooms on the first floor, which comfortably accommodated the 40 some-odd well-wishers. They had the buffet set up against the wall, and there was a projector screen and podium, as well as a large table of honor at the front of the room for grandma and grandpa (see photo).

The food was pretty good, tasted very homey. I ate most everything but skipped the kalbi jjim (braised short ribs) and the tang soo yuk (like a sweet and sour pork)--they didn't look that appetizing to me. I liked the the fried fish cakes, dumplings, and the various side dishes. The miso-based soup was pretty good, but it was weird to eat that out of styrofoam cups and a plastic spoon. Were they really out of proper dishes and utensils? There were regular plates and utensils for the other stuff, though. The best part was watching the white hubby eat the so-called "desserts"--an especially unsweet assortment of rice cakes that all the old people like. One kind was so unsweet it was akin to eating an eraser coated with bean powder. Yeah, he was kind of sad. :D Service was pretty decent, with a waitress devoted to our room fetching us water pitchers, distributing the cakes, etc. All in all an OK experience. I doubt I'd come back here just for the food--there are plenty of places closer to me that are just as good, but if you ever get invited to some Korean family gathering here at least you'll know the food will be decent.

not your average korean bbq, yss has a lot of "aristocratic ban-chan" (my description) that you don't get at your neighborhood places. yss has a lot of the classic korean main dishes - way too many to go through so i recommend you just hand over the reigns and order one of the set-courses. oh and don't forget to loosen up the pants - it's a lot of food and you won't go wrong.
