Zealous Restaurant, Chicago, Illinois Restaurant Details

Food:

Wanted to try this place out for a while. The decor and ambiance is okay. The food was pretty good, but not worth the price. Though not rude, I was not impressed by the staff.

Food:

It is off the beaten path, but definitley worth a visit. As you walk into this contemporary styled restaurant you will immedialtey see a large wine cellar and bar area! The main room has high ceilings, but is very inviting and warm. The entrees are unique dishes with a flavorful international flare. The mango pancakes with foie gras was exceptional as was the sea bass entree. The seafood was very fresh and the desserts were also exceptional.

Was an option 8 years ago. Hard to justify the expense in 2012 given the other options out there.

Yup - tasteful decor, perfect lighting and polite, attentive service. But let's be honest - I'm a red-blooded male and don't really give a damn about all that - I came to eat. Pork belly to start, then the halibut. Pork was perfectly cooked but under-seasoned, didn't understand the octopus pairing. Then the fish - overcooked, tough. I told the waiter who assured me he'd pass it on to the chef. I ate only half as I wasn't enjoying it and they charged me every penny. Unprofessional, a little tacky and overall disappointing. I won't be back.

My wife and I went here a couple years ago with another couple. It is down the street from us and we always made mention we would like to try it out. The overall atmosphere was a little ‘stuffy’. Our group of 4 people had to be the loudest ones in the establishment. Our servers changed during the middle of our dinner. We could not determine if it was due to our overly zealous (no pun intended) voices, or simply our server’s shift coming to an end. Their wine selection is very robust, and the food was indeed yummy. I would recommend anyone interested in going to give it a whirl, although, we have not been back since given it was a little expensive for what you get.
